Internet Troubleshooting

New Router?

Note: New routers must be authenticated by WesTex.  Call 432-756-3393.  If calling after hours press 2 for technical support.  A ticket will be created.  The router will need to be connected to be authenticated.

Reset Router:

To reset your router, make sure:

  • You have electricity.  Check breakers & GFCI Outlets. Be sure the ONT and/or Router haven’t been unplugged.  This is often the problem.
  • Router is turned on
  • If your ONT (the box that converts fiber to ethernet), has more than one port your ethernet cable should almost always be plugged into port one.  Rarely will WesTex activate any other port.
  • On the Router, the ethernet cable will need to be plugged into the port normally labeled “Internet”.  The other ports are for your devices such as TV’s, etc.
  • The Wi-Fi button on your router is on

If the above steps have not restored your internet, Power Cycle your Router:

  • Unplug router – wait 30 seconds – Plug the router back in.
  • Please allow up to 7-10 minutes for a full power-cycle.

Speed Test

To run a proper speed test:

  • Using an ethernet cable, connect from a computer to an ethernet port on the router.  Note: Unless the computer has been authenticated by WesTex, the computer will not establish an internet connection directly to the ONT.
  • Follow the link to Speedtest.
  • Note: Wifi Speeds are typically slower than hardwired speeds.  Not all routers are capable of all speeds.

Upgrade Router/Firmware

  • Search your router manufacturer online for upgrade recommendations.
